The animals
On both sides of the little, almost abstract couple I have drawn entwined animals.
Mathematically it was just perfect: four animals, six combinations of two different animals – good for six drawings, six friendly entanglements: bird with snake, dog with dragon, dog with snake, dragon with snake, bird with dog and bird with dragon.
Right!
The medieval illustrator Eadfrith deliberately left some errors in the sublime pages of the ‘Lindisfarne Gospels’ because he was practising the humility of avoiding perfection.
Right!
