Cernunnos
Cernunnos, the Horned One.
God of the Forest, Lord of the Hunt, bringer of abundance, personification
of untamed nature and the Male Principle.
Primal Shaman and consort of the Mother Goddess, who he unites with
sexually at the spring festival of Beltane to bring new life into the
world, now that the darkest half of the year is over.
Just about everywhere in the christianized world, the horned gods of
olden times were demonized, and it was not different for Cernunnos.
Except for in Brittany.
There the christians recycled him as "Saint Cornely", patron saint of
horned beasts.
There is apparently no great difference between pagan witchcaft and
christian miracles, because Saint Cornely too shook the horn of plenty
- through his doing a field of newly sown oat became ready to reap overnight
- and at Carnac he turned a small army of soldiers into rows of standing
stones.
Nothing whatsoever is known about his habits on the eve of May 1st.
