Celtic Ourobouros

An attempt to draw a fiendishly complex knot.
The idea to make it the famous self-devouring snake came while drawing.
The birds too are later additions.

Ourobouros, the tail-eater.
Stands for everything cyclic in nature, for the regenerative power of nature, for the perpetual interaction between matter and energy, for cosmic unity in an everlasting cycle of destruction and re-creation.

Does the Worldsnake simply keep it's tail symbolically in it's mouth? Or is it indeed eating itself?
One of the rather nutty (or cynical, or even realistic...) theories assumes the Serpent is vomiting itself...
